"What was she like?" He says it in a whisper, a kiss pressed against Ilya's skull when Hayden isn't looking. His hair stinks of alcohol and sick but Shane does it anyway.
"Mama?" Ilya pulls back, swaying slightly as he looks up at Shane.
"Yeah."
"She..." He blinks, dazed. "Kind."
Shane brushes the damp curls out of Ilya's face once more, praying Hayden's back is still turned as he leans into the touch. "What else?"
"She..." he pauses again, blinking as if the action will bring the words back to his mouth. "She would have loved you."

Summary
Tommy isn't scared often. He's scared when he sees his brother then though. His brother looking thin and tired. He's scared when he sees his brother and not Ellie. There's hope, hope that the child found her family, but a hope facing a loosing battle against Tommy's hope that Ellie would bring his brother back to him once more. He's even more scared when he finally sees Ellie, when he sees her body picked up, limp, unmoving and covered in bruises in his brothers arms.
He's scared, because he's 27 again and his brother is cradling another dead daughter in his arms.

Summary
Sirius had made him a lot of promises. He promised that Remus could trust him back at school, and had broken that. He promised Remus he would never leave him, and spent the next twelve years in Azkaban. He promised Remus they would win the war, and when they did they wouldn't have to hide anymore. He promised they would live together, him, Harry and Remus. He promised they could be a family, promised Remus would be 'Uncle Moony' not 'Professor Lupin', promised he would not have to be another funeral Remus would have to attend alone, promised he wouldn't abandon Remus like everyone else had.
Not again.
He promised Remus he would live. For him.
In the end, it seemed Sirius had never been that good at keeping promises.
Alternatively: When Sirius Black dies, his estate and inheritance by default are given to his husband, Remus Lupin, not Harry Potter. Except no one ever knew they were married, and Remus is tired of playing the role of the grieving husband.

"I know you're working with the league" Enji replied, watching Hawk's face contort into shock as he dragged the other out of the public eye.
"Are you fucking crazy." Hawks hissed back at him. "Are you trying to get us both killed?"
"Killed by who, the League, or the Hero Commission?"
Hawk's eyes narrowed. "I don't know what you're talking about."
"Don't know what I'm talking about?" Endevour laughed. "You disappeared for a month on what I know was not a 'modelling shoot' and expected me to not look for you? Because I did, and the moment I do the commission is on my arse saying I'm not permitted to even ask where you are. I might not be notorious for caring Hawks, but I thought you of all people would know better than that. You of all people would trust me. Now what the fuck is going on."
