What if the sparking change inside Victor, already there when he turned back to rescue his screaming creature from the fire, needed the final light of a gunblow to ignite?
After the shoot, the creature runs away carrying a fatally wounded Elizabeth in his arms, but instead of the cave, his path gets redirected to a small mountain village near the Swiss border, where they'll meet people who will change the course of their lives in more than one way.
And in time, eventually, a regretful and penitent Victor Frankenstein will be given an unexpected second chance too.

She wondered now if he understood what she offered or if she was asking too much of him. But an aborted whimper tried to escape his throat and he bit his lip as he lifted up a moment to unfasten his trousers and take himself out. He understood exactly, the clever boy.
