Aerion finished his joust match as before: he killed the horse, injured Ser Humfrey’s leg, and got banned from the tournament. But he was too tired from his father’s lecture to visit the commoners’ markets, so the next day the tournament continued.
He sat in the highborn seats and watched the boring joust.
Now, it wasn’t so boring, when the wooden lance of some stupid inexperienced huge hedge knight came flying toward his father and uncle’s seats. Both were chatting with some lord and unaware until Aerion abruptly pushed them out of danger. The lance struck deep into the prince’s side. Blood was everywhere.
And that stupid knight? He now owes him a massive debt.

This is a Jacaerys Velaryon / Cregan Stark fic set in an AU where the Greens have won the war. Jacaerys survives the Battle of the Gullet and lives as a peasant in Duskendale before he is discovered and sent to the wall, where he reunites with Cregan Stark. Aemond survives the Battle Above Gods Eye and with Vhaegar is able to maintain control in King's Landing. Not fully canon compliant but tbh Fire and Blood is already hearsay from Mushroom and House of the Dragon... exists. Kind of wanted to explore what a romance would be like between Jace and Cregan as two soldiers with trauma recovering from war and engaging in hijinks up north. Dual (but not alternating) POV with the two of them.
