    Summary

"Are the voices inside your head still yours, Lune?"

She cut him a withering glare, dozens of truths and memorized speeches caught in her throat. He met her gaze dead on, irises near colorless where they once held a hint of blue. He didn't look away, and neither could she.

    "Are yours?"

    ---

Nearly three years after saving the Canvas, Lune is restless. She's uncovered every mystery, solved every problem, and reached the limit of what the world can give her. Never before has she felt the world so small. The only remaining questions all circle back to the man she refuses to see, and who has isolated himself from everyone else. But when a dangerous new Nevron threatens the city and Maelle disappears, Lune has no choice but to go to him for answers.

Verso wants nothing more than to die. He'll settle for destroying any sliver of love between himself and those he called friend. But when Lune brings word of Maelle's disappearance and a Nevron he's never heard of, even he can't ignore the opportunity.

Once bound by respect and something deeper, Lune and Verso have nothing but distrust and loathing between them. They'll need more than that to save Maelle from the Nevron--and herself.

    Summary

“We old men must adapt to the times.” Verso thumbs across her cheek, fond and careful. “You’re way ahead, of course. So cutting edge you make them bleed.”

“Gustave gets eye strain from arcane journals. As I have told you,” she teases. “Such things tend to happen with age. You’ll have to grow used to it, now that you’re mortal like the rest of us.”

Age is always a strange topic for them. For everyone in the city. Verso no longer dyes his hair, and silver spills forth with every wash. His beard is salt-and-pepper. Lune longs to join him in that. Visible signs of age fills her with triumph. A satisfying sense of spite, even.

My take on the Maelle ending, and what it might mean to live in such a world.

    Summary

Gustave wakes with a choking gasp. Cold stone under his cheek, blood on his tongue. He was supposed to die, but he's still alive. Somehow. Whole and unharmed and utterly alone.

His miraculous survival means nothing if he can't get back to Maelle and the others before he gommages. With too many questions and too few answers, Gustave must navigate the Continent alone while fighting his own demons. He has to find Maelle, whatever the cost. But doubt and despair are difficult foes to fight when there's no one by your side.

    Summary

Lune tears a way out of Verso's dying Canvas and into the Dessendre manor and the real world, corporeal. Is she the family's prisoner, or a threat to their standing with the Painters Council as proof of Aline’s transgressions in a Canvas world? With a scarred and voiceless Maelle as her only ally, Lune must now navigate and survive a world she was never meant to see.

    Summary

Was it possible that this man was still alive? It shouldn’t be, not after the blows Renoir had dealt and yet, impossibly, the man still clung to a thread of life. Stubbornly as he had fought Renoir, he stubbornly fought death. Pity, mixed with that same discordant respect as earlier, Renoir lifted his cane to deliver a final blow. This too would be a mercy.

Or: Sophie called Gustave the most stubborn person she knew and I decided to take that personally.

A Gustave lives au, where trapped in the manor he must unravel the mystery of the man from the beach and his daughter and find his way back to his friends before it's too late.
