    Gojira, way before his reign as the king, was merely traversing the world with no exact objective like other beasts that roam the earth back then.

    As a lizard kaiju, he's known to be short-tempered; so he always ends up in bloody fights.

    Eventually came a time when he was beaten up so badly that he had to flee, with lesions all over his scaly body. With exhaustion dawning on him, he finally encounters a safe flowery field and slept through his agony there.

    After waking up, he sees his wounds gone, not even a scar that hints to the pain he used to feel.

    It wasn't long until he spots "stars" shimmering in front of him.

    P.S. To be clear, the pain Shanks is experiencing is extremely intense. More so then most he has suffered at any other point in his life. He is still bad ass. He's just having a bad day. Also, phantom pain is not just a psychologic problem. It can also be caused by nerves misfiring which results in very real physical pain.
