“So…” Pearl tried again, eyeing the roses. “You like flowers? You, uh.. Into botany?” She asked.
“No.”
“Oh. uh, cool.” Pearl said, rubbing the back of her neck.
“I study hematology.” They said,
Pearl gave a small nod. “So like, blood stuff.” She replied. “Interesting choice.”
Cleo’s lip twitched, turning into something between irritation and amusement. “Something like that.” She muttered.

Cleo didn’t say anything for a moment, but Pearl could feel their eyes on her. “What’ve you eaten today?” Cleo questioned finally.
“Uh.. Just some bread from the pantry.” Pearl said, lifting her eyes just slightly. They looked so delicious.
Cleo nodded, but Pearl knew, somehow she just knew they weren't convinced.
“I went to the market today,” Cleo said, walking around the table, standing just behind Pearl, breathing down her neck. “We were all out of bread.” -

The ending of Third life, rewritten to hurt more:D
--
Grian didn’t hear when Scars ribs cracked, or when he stopped coughing. He didn’t realise until just now that his legs had given out and he’d fallen to his knees in front of Scar- Scar who wasn't breathing anymore, whose chest no longer moved with the telltale signs of life. Scar, who now was a soulless body. An empty vessel.
