Vaggie has a deep sense of self loathing within her core that she can't seem to shake no matter how much she tries. She's ashamed of who she is—from her features to her own birth-name.
Charlie, whole-heartedly accepts who Vaggie is and loves all her imperfections. Charlie is her saviour and, essentially, her only will to live.
