    Falling in love can be hard enough to deal with on its own. Falling in love when you are a recently-reintegrated superhero, who spent the past 70 years as a brainwashed HYDRA assassin, is a bit tricky. It gets trickier when the person you're in love with is a genius, billionaire, philanthropist, superhero. It's just messy when said person is Captain America's boyfriend.

    After Bucky agreed to return to Avengers Tower with Steve when Hydra fell, he and Tony realize that his time with Hydra changed him far more than anyone could have ever guessed. Except Tony, who, by a quirk of fate, happened to be one of the few people on the planet uniquely suited to help Bucky out with his 'drinking problem.' But the past doesn't like to stay buried, and they eventually discover that the Winter Soldier project didn't really die with Hydra...
     
    Bucky followed Tony as they continued down the hallway, JARVIS scanning the way ahead as far as his sensors could reach through all of this rock and metal and concrete. Then Tony came to a stop and some instinct made the hair rise on the back of Bucky’s neck.
    “Holy shit,” Tony said. “Uh, James, we got a big fucking problem.” He stood to one side so that Bucky could stand next to him, and he had to stare for a minute before his brain could understand what his eyes were telling him. Unlike the previous rooms, this room wasn’t littered with leaves and trash; it was littered with bodies.

    When Tony gets the invitation he stares at it a long time before finally opening it. He knew it was coming of course, knew it was inevitable, but that doesn't make it any easier to see. It's not that he isn't happy for them. He is. Steve and Peggy deserve to finally move on with their lives. It hurts though. It hurts because Bucky was supposed to be Steve's best man. It hurts because by this time he and Bucky were supposed to be already married. It hurts because Bucky had vanished from his life - literally - without a word, leaving him standing at the altar. No one has seen or heard from him since. It hurts for a number of reasons, but he is going anyways, rumours and heartbreak be damned. Now if only he didn't have to deal with the possibility of a plus one on top of everything else.
