    Summary

Alhaitham exhales roughly and turns back towards his room. Moments later, he hears six pairs of footsteps following him.

He swings his door open and raises a brow.

Kaveh’s eyes narrow. He peeks inside, taking in the muddy floors, the flowers strewn all over the place, and the leaves scattering the floors. Alhaitham watches Kaveh scan the room before his eyes flit over Alhaitham, and then the Aranara, and then Alhaitham again.

Through it all, the Aranara continue to stare at Alhaitham like he’s the biggest disappointment they’ve ever had the misfortune of meeting.

    Kaveh’s lips twitch.

    “Don’t you dare.”

⋆༺𓆩Set in the ancient time of King Deshret𓆪༻⋆

"If they knew,” Alhaitham murmured, resting his brow against Kaveh’s, “they would try to take it from us. Names carry power. And I will not let the world touch the parts of me that belong only to you.”

Deshretian times of Sumeru were fresh, full of lust, love, and knowledge. The goddess Nabu Malikata experienced them all. With his true name locked tightly behind his lips, he found the easiest way to be understood was to pour it out to another, wanting set of lips...
But now, it was hard to distinguish who's arms he would fall into.
The fox eared dancer, his personal priest guard... Or his husband, the king.
Or... Maybe it was best to just have all three?
Kaveh was a greedy man, after all.

    Summary

“I’ve designed many buildings in my career,” Kaveh begins, the attention of every single person in the crowd fixed on him. “Most of which have been extravagant pieces made to stand tall in our city and glitter.”

Kaveh glances down at what must be some notes on the podium, pausing before he looks back up, shining in the bright lights of the stage.

“But in recent years, I must admit that my focus has shifted.”

Alhaitham leans forward, watching, hoping for something he can't quite admit. Not when the truth is that he’s never known how to say that he is hungry without fear that people will see the truth that he is starving.

Or, a year after the events of the Interdarshan Championship, Alhaitham finally retires

    Summary

“Ratio?” he asks, stepping a bit closer. “It’s me, Aventurine. Are you… do you want to go home?”

At the mention of his name, Ratio stills, a light startle in his step as he turns to face Aventurine. He drops his hands, lacing them back together in front of him. He looks dazed, normal intensity lost from his eyes as they open glassy and vacant. They flex wide with recognition, but he doesn’t say anything.

Ratio goes quiet, and Aventurine doesn't know what to do.

    Summary

“Math?” And a published academic journal, at that?

“Yes.” Ratio returns the book to his bag, carrying on, but Aventurine’s stuck on the fact that this is apparently what he does in his free time outside of composing music.

“…I thought you were a pianist.”

    “I am a pianist.”

“But– math?” Even Aventurine doesn’t spend that much time thinking about math, and he spends twelve hours a day staring at financial models.

“Does it not occur to you that it's possible to have more than one interest?”

Aventurine lives the same week on repeat: eighty hours of his soul-sucking high finance job, then two nights of dancing off the stress to the beat of his favorite anonymous DJ. His move into a luxury apartment building brings him next door to Ratio, an esteemed classical composer with a love for piano. Eager to make a good impression, Aventurine keeps his clubbing habit under wraps — but he’s not the only one hiding secrets under strobe lights.
