The only time Claire had met Syd before today had been when she was a guest of Carmy's, and so Carmy's "I'm sorry, okay?! I'm so fucking sorry!" ran through the background of this conversation, as did twenty other things Claire was supposed to be doing as she instead comforted Syd.

Carmy could hear her think over the phone. He couldn't stand it. "Tylenol?"
"Yeah." He sounded stupid. God, he was so stupid. "M-Mikey said that if you took-took too m-m-much, it w-wou-would fuck up, uh, fuck up your liver and kill you."
Carmy learns that Tylenol could kill him and he handles this information like a normal person.

Another minute’s gone. Every second counts. It blares in his head sometimes; the blue sign turns too vibrant like a blinding black light. He scrubs his yellow teeth, gets dressed, smoothes his oily hair down, disgustedly washes the coating of oil off his hands, and is ready in record time.
