Wilbur couldn't say anything even if he tried. He should've protested more, should've questioned everything a little more. Here he was, a 24-year-old man turned into a cat and willingly letting his coworker pick him up. Why was he a cat in the first place? How was any of this real?
His thoughts were cut off by an "Awwwww" from above him. "Alright, little guy," and suddenly he was being hauled into the air and held tightly into a jacket, kept safe from the rain. "I hope I at least have some food at home for you."
Or!
Wilbur Soot is cursed into a cat after a woman vaguely refers to a broken universe.
Tommy Innit finds a cat drenched from the rain in an alleyway and takes it home.
They both end up with more family than they had to begin with.

Wilbur’s breathing hitched as he looked into the pale eyes of the dead boy. Unlike before, his lips were no longer blue, and there was no more seaweed stuck in his blonde curls. He was sitting up now, the waves soaking the bottom of his pants as he sat on the sand across from Wilbur.
“You-”
“I’m not dead, Wil,” the boy said, the words tumbling out of him in a rush. “I’m not dead, don’t fucking listen to them when they say I’m dead because I’m not. You know I’m not!”
“I-I saw your body,” Wilbur stammered, unsure of how the dead boy knew his name.
“It’s not me! I don’t know what the fuck that thing was, but I’m not dead! You can feel it, can’t you?” The boy pleaded, his voice cracking as he started crawling on the sand towards Wilbur. “You have to save me, Wil. Please, you need to get me out of here!”

To most people The Scientist is a mystery.
Why does he make these powerful things?
To satisfy his own hungry curiosity? Just because he can? Is he planning on watching the world go down in flames?
No one knows. Except him and the leader of the group he works for. They both know why he does what he does. Or really... the someone he does it all for.
The Scientist would step into sight of the cabin. His eternal calculating expression turning into a wide grin when he would see the wide blue eyes and tuft of blonde hair peeking through the blinds.
