Post-apocalyptic AU. The dead walk out of the forest sometimes, shamble their way up to the walls where whoever is on guard can pick them off. They've never seen a licker or a tyrant near the compound though. Some of the kids say there's an angel in the woods that keeps them away, but Chris is going to find out what's really out there.

Leon doesn't reach his extraction point after finishing a mission and doesn't respond to any communications, so Piers and Chris are sent in to retrieve him. They find him passed out on a catwalk above a bloodbath of dead BOWs. Piers notices that he has no body armor or even much weaponry besides a harness with a knife and his handgun and is rightfully pissed on the Agent's behalf.

Waking up has never been this difficult in his life, Chris thinks distantly as he forces his eyes open, flinching against the bright lights. There’s a distant sound of a voice, and he can barely make out the words at first, even though it all gets clearer with every passing syllable. “Oh, Chris, you’re awake!” There’s a hand on his shoulder, gently stopping him as he struggles to sit up, and he doesn’t really have the energy to fight it so he complies.
When he groans there’s immediately a worried face in front of him, and he squints a little as he attempts to recognize them. “Claire?” It comes out a guess, more than anything. The person in front of him is Claire, he’s sure of it, but she’s… so old.

They’re at eye level now, Leon still a bit hunched over. “I thought you couldn’t?” He asks, voice hoarse.
