During a mission that goes SLIGHTLY haywire, Ellie and Henry both go missing simultaneously, leaving behind... someone else. Said person is incredibly distressed to learn that they're missing, but that's nothing a good old fashioned mid-mission rooftop cuddle session can't fix.

"Henry?" Charles squawked back.
"Yes. No. Yes? Maybe?" A palm heel was pressed roughly to an eye in an attempt to physically shove down a headache. "I don't know."
Charles was silent, which wasn't great for the mounting panic, but then he cleared his throat and spoke. "Okay. Can you see Ellie? I'm only picking up one heat signature right now."
"No, I am Ellie. Wait, no— I don't —"
"Okay. Hey, don't worry. It's going to be alright."
"No, it's not! Henry fell and I caught him, but now I can't find Ellie and—" Breathing hitched, and hands went up to clench at hair, but the hair was so short. Why was it so short? No, it's supposed to be short. Not this short! And it's long on top! Why is it so long? It hasn't been long since middle school. Wait, had it ever been this long? No, surely not. Mom wouldn't have allowed—

It began with an alert in his email inbox- somebody had altered some code he wrote.
Not a particularly unusual notification for Grant to get, considering he had been a computer scientist for more than three decades. It was slightly more unusual, however, considering the notification said that the code had been modified by Grant himself- something he had definitely not done- and also considering the system being altered had been shut down more than eighteen years ago.From: C&A - LOCAL [HQ]

[1337 /usr/ai/agent/caine] DELETED....What the hell.
Or: Six people have been living their normal lives, entirely unaware of the copies of their consciousness trapped in a brightly-coloured digital hellscape. That is, at least, until said copies escape the Circus, and six people wake up with both sets of memories, determined that the family they formed in a very different reality is one they will find again.
