Nakamura loved two things:
1. Icchan, his red octopus: compulsive aquarium rearranger, LEGO collector, and quite possibly the first cephalopod in recorded history to moonlight as a therapist. He listened to every one of Nakamura's rambles about the light-haired boy without a single flicker of judgment. An excellent quality in a confidant.
2. Hirose, who carried a laugh Nakamura had memorised like a song — warm, funny, and entirely unaware that Nakamura found something to fall for in even the way Hirose breathed.The two of them were the axis his world turned on.
Then Icchan gets sick.
Nakamura starts losing sleep, skipping meals, researching symptoms until his fingers ache, slowly sinking while he tries to keep the axis in place. And because the universe clearly has an outstanding score to settle with him — this is exactly when Hirose decides to start paying attention. Now Nakamura has to keep Icchan alive, keep himself upright, and figure out what to do with the boy of his dreams offering to help for the very first time.
Hirose, for his part, only wanted to help. He hadn't expected to learn how to care for a sick octopus — nor to realise he might be taking care of two things at once.

Come to think of it, the last time he and Kageyama had a heart to heart (if it could even be called that) was when his junior had cornered him and his nephew and begged Oikawa for advice regarding Hinata. That right there was Oikawa’s confirmation that feelings were blooming, because seriously, what kind of tyrannical king throws all of his pride away to accommodate one of his subjects? His earnestness and desperation as he bowed in front of Oikawa told him all he needed to know. Hinata was important, and he was changing Kageyama for the better.
Now, years later, they stand outside of a bar discussing the very same boy. Oikawa takes a deep breath, knowing it’s going to be difficult to get through to someone as stubborn as Kageyama.

“Kageyama-kun!” Shoyo's hand reaches out, latching onto the fabric of Kageyama’s team jacket. Kageyama pauses and stares at Shoyo, head cocked to the side, waiting for a response. Too bad for Shoyo his mouth and hand move faster than his brain.
“...Yes?” Kageyama prompts when Shoyo is standing there, clutching onto Kageyama's jacket and panicking.
“Did you...did you want to go see a movie?” Way to go, Shoyo, you couldn’t be any lamer if you tried.

Shoyo spends the day with Kageyama, not because he's in love or anything but because Kageyama is just so damn mysterious. The cat's (crow's?) curiosity brought it satisfaction or however the saying goes.
