Summary
A video, as though recorded from the corner of a room. A mannequin sits in the center, hardly recognizable as humanoid with all of the mismatched wings grafted to the back. A stream of numbers runs across the top of the screen.
“Rejection test 6.3.”
The mannequin shifts slightly, patchwork sets of wings twitching. Akira inhales.
“My god,” murmurs Yusuke from Akira’s shoulder. “That’s…”
“Yeah,” is all Akira can manage to say.
The subject is a teenage boy with pale brown hair; Akira can’t see his face. He watches as the mutilated body spasms again, several wings unfurling completely as others snap shut. The subject continues to move in this way until only one set of wings remains functional, the rest hanging uselessly from his back.
