Chris stands up abruptly. “I’m gonna take a shower.”
“Right now?” Dave makes a face, scrunching his nose in a way that Chris thinks is kind of c–
“Yeah, uh… I– I feel gross.” He throws his phone on the bed, then starts peeling his shirt off. There are eyes on him; he can feel them as he chucks his shirt on the floor amongst his other piles of clothes. “I trust you not to mess with my stuff.”
Dave shrugs. “Mmkay. I’ll just wait for you, I guess. All alone.” As if he hasn’t been by himself in Chris’s room before. He hoists himself off the ground, grunting like an old man, then plops on Chris’s bed, falling back and splaying himself out.
The scene makes Chris feel awful. “I’ll be quick.”
Dave closes his eyes.
Smiles.
