“It’s very nice to meet you both,” Murakami says. There’s an itch, deep under his skin that he wants to scratch; to reach under and discover more about these two, scrawny, messy children that appear at his shop with hungry bellies and owlish eyes.
“Do…” He hesitates, before taking a breath and trying again. “Do your parents know you are here?” He then asks them.
Leonardo’s expression faults for a moment, stilling and stalling before he gives him an answer.
“Uh… no.” His voice suddenly timid and small, like the first occasion he’d wandered into his shop and stood on his tippy toes to greet him. “Our mom, she, uh—”
“Sleeps a lot!” Michelangelo chimes in, voice cheery and bright — a stark contrast to the dark cloud that was apparently now looming over his brother's demeanour at the mention of such parent.
Murakami feels his heart twist in his chest. From the dirtied clothes and the gaunt, haunted looks deep behind their eyes and the way there seemed to always be a shadow hanging above them, it was clear that whatever home these boys came from, wasn’t a particularly loving one.
What kind of child spends their birthdays alone?

Now that they've set up some boundaries, Leo has been keen to explore the inside of Yuichi's clothes, and Yuichi is happy to let him kiss and grope and snuggle all he wants. At least until Leo falls sideways into an Accidental Nap. Yuichi knows he can't help that right now. His biological rhythm is still set on doze even after the "Big Sleep" - his brothers are still occasionally nodding off all over the place, too. Yuichi has found them all crowded together in their rooms or in front of the projector; swaddled in comfy clothes and blankets, tucked into various pillow piles, in front of or on top of every surface that generates any amount of heat.
It's actually pretty funny now that Yuichi actually knows what's going on.
And Leo falling asleep during make-outs, even a week later, is objectively Hilarious.

“That’s not true,” Leonardo says, automatic, walking over with his hand lifting to place itself on his younger self’s shoulder. Before he can, though, he jerks away, curling in on himself more.
“Yes, it is!” Ah, there’s the anger. “I ruined people’s lives! Donnie, Mikey, Raph, they’re all hurt because of me! I made your worst mistake!” The boy looks at him, face pulled into a snarl, eyes sparking dangerously. “Don’t you get it? You’re supposed to hate me!”
Leonardo breathes in, then out. He keeps his expression calm, and he knows the air he’s giving off is of a knowing, wise leader. (He’s anything but.)

“Why?”

Raph was safe.
And so Leo, blanket still wrapped around his trembling form, hands white knuckled around the hems, carefully tiptoed over and climbed into Raph’s bed, just like he had used to when he was young, crawling under the massive blankets haphazardly strewn across his form and into the expanse of sturdy sheets."

Summary
Donnie collided with Leo in a tangle of limbs. There was an instinctive cling in return from his twin, before the realization sunk in.
"No." Leo breathed in his ear, immediately shattered. "No, no, no, no, no!”
Every muscle in Donnie's body was shaking like an earthquake from the amount of effort he'd just expended. The explosion caught up to them, sending the twins spiralling away into space and debris.
For one singular moment, Donnie allowed himself a burst of victory. His heart was still thudding a thousand miles an hour in his chest, having been absolutely terrified he wasn't going to make it in time. But he did. And he held onto Leo, his prize.
Then they hit the ground, the sudden tumble bursting them apart. Donnie felt the world spin, rapid and disorientating, before he slammed into something rock and cracking under his impact.
