Mack had been getting ready to wallow, to head back to Vancouver, where his family were busy and he would mostly be left to his own devices, when a shadow appeared in front of him.
Looking up, there he was. Standing tall and proud, regal and captainly, not at all like he had just had a 19 year old calling the shots over him, was Sidney Crosby.
Sid looked down at him, with those kind eyes that had looked at Mack with awe and happiness since they first played together, those eyes that could offer a shoulder without saying a single word.
And he offered him an opportunity. Mack had already had the opportunity to go to Nova Scotia and train with Sid, and Nate, but that was less important, but this offer was something different. Something more.

Summary
Silence fell over the four of them, as the rest of the Sharks watched on, seeing who would break first, and how they would do it. Whether they would spiral or move on like nothing happened.
Neither of those things happened.
Instead, they got curious.
"Wait, if Crosby is meant to be Shane...who's Ilya meant to be?" Will asks.
"Malkin." "Ovechkin." "Marchand"
"Marchand?!"
Each baby Shark gives a different answer, and clearly disagree with one another, with the four of them descending into chaos. The vets all watch on as their young core argue over which competitor of theirs was used as the basis of a character in someone's hockey porno, someone who apparently had sex with Sidney Crosby's fictional progeny.

The three Alternates stood in front of him, as well as the players sat all around the room, listen as he breaks down his many problems with their Captain's father, and find themselves angry on Mack's behalf.
"And the worst thing is, Mack can't get away from him. Players get drafted and are able to get away from their parents and their expectations, but not Mack. Mack lives in the same city as his dad, his dad can show up whenever he wants. And even if he can't be their physically, he knows he's trained Mack so well that he'll always respond to his calls. Even when he doesn't want to, and when he really shouldn't."
"Mack's dad treats him like a player he's consulting on, one he's trying to get the very best out of, no matter what it takes. He doesn't treat him like he's his son, he's just a sports project. And in return, Mack thinks everything he is, everything he has achieved, is because of his dad, not in spite of him."

"You weren't diagnosed as a kid? You didn't just choose to not talk about it cause of all the shitty opinions and chirping when we were coming up?"
"No." Sid is genuinely baffled by this conversation, but looking around the room, he sees that this misconception is not restricted to Flower, everyone in the room is seemingly in agreement.
"You're not autistic? You? You're not autistic?!" Flower hysteria is growing and Sid feels need to de-escalate before they reach the Quebecois ranting that he knows is one of Flower's next steps.

David sat by through all of this, still holding the phone as his son had folded into him, resting against him as he spoke to Taylor. He smiled down at his son, glad they were getting along so well. He knew that Taylor was kind but worried that his son's obsession and passion might put her off, but if anything, that passion just ignited a parallel passion in her.
What David didn't know is that Taylor was very used to this kind of conversation, having grown up with Sid in the offseason, coming back brimming with plans, logistics, and information and having nowhere to go with it. Taylor became his conversational partner, taking in everything he told her, and as she got older and got into hockey herself, she took everything he imparted on her and utilised it.
Listening to Shane, all Taylor could think was, 'god, him and Sidney are going to get on too well. God help us.'

Summary
When Apollo is banished, the Fates interfere. Instead of falling in a dumpster, they send him back in time, with no memories and no powers, back in the womb - the womb of Mary Grayson. Dick Grayson grows up, and eventually regains his memories. The fates had claimed he had a task to complete - but how can he complete it if he doesn't know what it is?
