Summary
It is the eve of Countess Rosa's 20th day of birth. Rosa, young and free spirited, does not wish to choose a husband tonight—for her heart belongs to someone whom she can never marry: Her trusted Advisor, Vilhelm. Her whole being sings traitorously for this man, despite what the law states regarding marriage between social classes.
The night is interrupted when an explosion destroys the ballroom. A dozen masked men flood in and kidnap Vilhelm, stealing away with the only thing Rosa cares about. Weeks pass—a rich merchant offers funding for not only the ballroom repairs, but also to investigate the group behind the bombing . . . and Vilhelm's kidnapping.
Rosa is hesitant to accept the help, but everything changes when a masked man appears in her bedroom one night, claiming to be the person Rosa hates most in the world—the lost heir of House Haspran, who disappeared years ago.
New rumors rise to feed the fire; Rosa's world takes a deadly dive. It is said that House Haspran had a hand in the crimes against her estate . . . but whose information can Rosa trust? That of the masked man? of her new internal affairs team? or should she trust no one at all?
