“You’re the one who said you didn’t want me here, or have you forgotten? Do you regret it? Is that what this is?” Violet's finger jabbed into his chest. “Is this some kind of sick do-over attempt?”
“I know what I did.” He admitted his guilt evenly, a hand curling around her wrist, so light that she would have thought he was scared of breaking her if she didn’t know any better. The touch set her relic alight with the ancient, prickling magic she only felt near him. She inhaled sharply. “I know it hurt you. I’m not going to apologize.”
Fuck him.
“I hate you,” Violet whispered viciously. “I wish I’d never agreed to do the first rite with you.”
This time, Xaden was the one who pulled in a breath, almost inaudible. But Violet heard; saw the way his eyes widened just a little. Finally, she’d gotten a reaction.
It didn’t make her feel better.
