His suspension, Gideon disappearing, Haley filing for divorce, and now Carl Buford’s trial being pushed up by months. When asked, they had all sorts of reasons but in the end, it didn’t matter why...it just mattered that it was. He couldn’t claim ignorance, he’d been following the news, had an alert set for the man’s name in the news since the original case ended. He’d taken a particular interest in seeing it through to the finish, call it what you will – professional curiosity, a personal vendetta, some gray area in between. He’d told the prosecution that he wanted to be kept in the loop but it shocked even him how deeply involved he had allowed himself to get. Maybe he just needed somewhere to focus his energy, a distraction from the way his own life was falling apart so spectacularly. This was something he could control, something he was good at. Not just good, no, something he was great at.
