Summary
“This city runs on three things,” she continues, taking a gulp of her beer. “Guns, cash, and sex. And two of them are directly related.”
“I’m assuming that’s cash and sex,” Rock says.
“Right. Money is power. So is sex, if you do it right. ‘Specially for the hookers and escorts, but that all comes back to money, anyway.” She smirks. “Then there’s people who just do it for shits and giggles, but in my book, that comes back to power, too.”

Summary
So much of it is a performance that Revy may as well be dancing around bullets. A haze of automatic rifles and instinctive, curt responses. Words barely mean anything anymore. She knows what needs to be said, and what needs to be done. When people push, she pushes back. Yells louder. Hits harder. Aims straighter. Second to none at living in a rotten rut.
Nothing ever changes, so she drifts. Floats. Starts to sink, and doesn’t bother swimming; it won’t make a difference. Revy gets so far out to sea that she actually hits someone. Terrifies them out of their own nightmare. And in return, the stranger yanks her back up and screams in her waterlogged face. She vomits from shock, scrambling in the ocean. She’s breathing again; air moves with her blood, and her dying brain jolts her back to the present. She can hear her own heartbeat again.
Rock woke up. Revy started swimming.
