Summary
In the year 277 AC, the Mad King's second son rides north.
Vaeron Targaryen is fifteen, a ward of Jon Arryn at the Eyrie, and the youngest of Lord Arryn's three wards when his father's capture at Duskendale shakes the realm. His mother the queen sends a raven to keep Vaeron out of the south, away from what is no doubt a brewing storm. Lord Arryn sends him north with Eddard Stark who carries a proposal of marriage between their friend and foster brother Robert Baratheon and his sister Lyanna to his father, Lord Rickard Stark.
When winter traps Vaeron in Winterfell for longer than he had anticipated, he returns home after reaching the age of majority to reunite with his family. What he finds is a Red Keep held hostage by a crazed monarch, a brother obsessed with prophecy, and the doom that the tensions of the realm could spell for his family.

Summary
