Summary
The start of Jaskier's winter position at court is celebrated with a grand ball dedicated the artists brought in for the winter. But not all goes as planned when another guest recognizes him. Backed against the wall and faced with the threat of marriage, he spits out the first lie to comes to his mind and claims he is already married - to Geralt, of all people. To his immense surprise, Geralt goes along with it. In doing so, he commits to spending the winter by Jaskier's side and playing the doting husband. It's fortunate he does, because court seems more dangerous than Jaskier remembered. Monsters lurk in the corners and danger lurks behind every door. Without Geralt there, he might have been frightened. With Geralt, he's more concerned by his own growing feelings for the witcher. Can he get through the winter without Geralt catching on?

Convincing Geralt to allow him to tag along as his bard proves rather difficult when the man, uh, witcher seems intent on continuing to believe Jaskier is a working girl. Just because Jaskier keeps sleeping with him. Honestly.
"We?" Geralt says rather blankly, or more so than seems his usual. His back is turned and he's now standing on the other side of the room.
"You're upright, and I seem to not be attached to your cock any longer, so I am naturally assuming you're on your way out. Pity since the room's paid until the morrow."
"Do you never, hmm." His back is very expressive, truly. Jaskier can almost see the annoyance there.

“Geralt, please, I... can... let me explain, please...” Jaskier’s voice wavers and he takes another step back. Geralt strengthens his grip on the blood-soaked sword still in his hand and glares at Jaskier. At who he thought was Jaskier but is clearly something else.
“What have you done with Jaskier?” His voice comes out as a savage snarl, his teeth clenched together, every muscle in his body tense like he’s a string pulled tight, ready to snap even at the smallest sign.
“I am Jaskier. Geralt, please, you have to believe me...!” Jaskier’s voice hitches as Geralt takes a step closer stalking towards the bard in slow steady steps careful not to startle the bard before he’s close enough to strike.
“Where’s the real Jaskier?”
