Somehow Mary had managed to leave Riri questioning herself and her fathers teachings more than once. With that self-assured personality, always wanting to climb higher, whatever it took her. Riri wasn’t brave like that, she wasn’t capable of defying what was expected of her. She had rules and followed them, because if she didn’t, what happened with her mother would happen to her, or worse, to her sister. So yes, you could say Riri admired Mary for her willpower, for defying what everyone thought of her, sometimes she thought the girl was a little reckless, like she felt consequences didn't apply to her, now she was paying the price for that.
