Summary
“It’s really hot.” He says, doesn’t think about why he says it. He’s honestly not thinking of much else but the heat and the way Kei’s face looks without his glasses as he blocks the sun from view.
“Hm, no shit,” Kei says lazily, still brushing at Tadashi’s hair. There had honestly been only two or three blades of grass. It feels soft.
“You smell like wet dog.”
Tadashi makes a face. “Wow, thanks.”

Summary
It’s not the smile. It’s not the laugh. It’s not the warmth at his side.
“Hey Tsukki! What’s up?”
He sits up, curls his hand over his other arm.
It’s not the toothy grin. It’s not the half-jokes. It’s not the summer night sky.
“Hey.”
A laugh.
“Hi.”
“Hi.”

Summary
“So yesterday,” Tadashi started, sweeping from the large, circular rug adorned with confetti triangle patterns. He made a small chuckle. "Aiko said the cutest thing--"
“Which one is that again?” He’s cut off by Tobio, who stepped around him to dump a pile of stuffed animals in a toy trunk. He wiped his hands on his pants as he retreated back to the front desk.
Tadashi rolled his eyes, made an amused smile. “She’s got blonde pigtails? Always wears those little camo boots she never takes off? You know," He snapped his fingers in thought, then pointed at him. "The one that tried to put lipstick on you yesterday.”
“Oh god. Not her.” Tobio groaned.

Summary
Kei shrugs. “What do you think people like, gift-wise?”
Tadashi furrows his brows. “What--”
“I’m not making chocolate and I can’t afford something big and expensive, so I’m asking your opinion.”
Tadashi almost asks why, until a small thought comes to his head. It’s near Christmas Eve. He wants an alternative to chocolate gifts. Tadashi gasps.
“Tsukki, who is she?”

Summary
Kei looked at him and Tadashi shrunk under his gaze. “Storms cause power outages. They cause colds. They’re a sweeping mop on society.”
“Maybe society needs a mop every now and then?” Tadashi spoke up with a shrug. Kei only turned his head to look out at the road. Tadashi rubbed his thumb over the end of his umbrella. “Not that-- you know, that I’m meaning to argue with you, but…”
Tadashi sighed to himself, shaking his head in a small manner and looking up. “The rain is nice sometimes…” -

“No, but listen-- don’t-- don’t turn around! Listen! Okay, now, I’m just, I had a thought just now and I really need you to hear it. It’s really important, Tsukki, please.” Tadashi prodded. Kei closed his eyes, finding an inner strength, and nodded for the other to continue.
“What?” He asked, drawing out the word.
Tadashi paused, waited for a bit, tried to hold his breath, but a snort released. And then, in the tiniest voice: “Would you fuck an alien?”

Summary
“It’s our anniversary, Kei.” Tadashi said with a small little shrug and smiled sheepishly behind his hand.
Kei turned his head in thought. “No, that’s next month.”
“No, actually, it’s this month. And, well, we forgot it. Just like last year.”
“What did we do last year?” Kei ended up asking, and Tadashi paused.
“...I actually don’t know.”
“Because you forgot.”
“Wait, no no no, let’s make this clear. We both forgot!”

Summary
He wished they could still take joy in the simple things; in the laughter of bubble blowing, the wonder of a ladybug floating to their fingertips, the delight at a puffy, cloudy sky.
Instead, time gave them this. It gave them ‘complicated’. The kind of complicated that ate away at your heart and stomach and chewed at the rationality of logic. The kind that gave you unbearable itches-- itches that quickly turned to urges and a feeling of confusion in the shower with whirling thoughts of brown eyes.

Summary
Kei looked up, made a mocking calculative gesture with his finger in an effort to ease the tension. Mainly, to ignore the ache.
“Let’s see, that’s approximately 90 days, 18 hours, 21 minutes until our friendship comes to its inevitable end--”
“Don’t,” Tadashi said, a bit of small amusement yet undeniable hurt etched in his tone. "Please."
Kei noticed his hands gripping the chains of the swing, blinking back the tears that would follow. He kicked his shoe against the snow and looked skyward. -

Summary
“We’re going to the park!”
“And when did I agree to this?”
“Just get up. Come on, it’ll be a nice time. I promise,” he brushed at his teeth, and Kei could hear the faucet run as he spit into the sink.
But the bed was too comfortable to abandon.
