It was clear that Tim was so, so scared, his heart beating like a rabbit in the maw of a wolf. Really it was just blood moving faster through a set of little tubes that could be easily broken into a million pieces.
“Because Tim I have something that they never did.” Though he missed the sound of combat boots on the ground, it was freeing to still hover in the air even as he moved closer to him.
He couldn’t resist moving almost too close to Tim’s face, seeing every mark and perceived imperfection, and it was almost funny how much Red Robin had to strain his neck to look up at his best friend. He found himself reaching forward. Bypassing where he wanted to hold his fragile face to the panel of armor that covered his heart.

It was something like an open secret in Gotham, that even though all it’s heroes were open to help no matter the situation, each one of them had a special affinity to certain matters.
For example, children from all districts knew to yell for Nightwing if they found themselves lost and scared. Small business owners often painted little Oracle symbols on their doorsteps, to warn away possible thieves with the knowledge that Gotham’s cryptic hacker had their eye on them. Working girls would send a quick prayer to the Red Hood before seeing their seediest clients; and as such, knew who to call for if things took a turn for the worst.
And Red Robin… well. His was a very specific bunch.

Quinlan crosses his arms, grumbling.
“Oh shove it, Kenobi, you aren’t any better.”
“That, we are in agreement. Which means I’m sure Cody and I will have no problem finding a way to get back at you two. Isn’t that right darling?” He says, far too cheerfully.
Cody studies him, up and down, before getting that look in his eyes that means he’s come to a decision.
“No, actually, it’s not, sir.”
Then Cody stands on the tips of his toes, leans in close and whispers something directly into Kenobi’s ear, entirely unintelligible to the rest of them, but whatever it is makes Kenobi blush hard enough to rival his own copper hair with a weak “Oh!”
Fox just might be sick.
“Not you too!”

And that’s why he was back here. The pull of that warm, fuzzy feeling felt intoxicating. Orion obviously didn’t expect it, if he did, he probably would have tried to capture it, then store it into a precious part of his mind for easy access. But now, he has resorted to this. It shouldn’t be hard — again, it’s not like he hasn’t done it before — but this felt different. Such a breach of privacy with his best friend felt wrong. But was anything Orion doing ever right? He slacked off work, breached archives, sold sensitive information, forged contraband… Orion erased the moral part of his programming a long time ago. He couldn’t even remember if he had one to begin with.
So why was this so difficult?
[My own Transformers: Shattered Glass AU, modeled upon Transformers One, with Orion Pax and D-16 swapped in roles.
