A Tale of Two Stans AU:
Instead of fighting over the journal Stan tries to leave, but Ford isn't willing to let him go that easily. During the argument Stan comes into contact with a strange magical substance, and when he wakes up later he finds he's a bit smaller than he remembers.
Now not only does Ford have to worry about Bill taking over the world, he also has to figure out how to turn his brother back to normal.

At the steps of the casino a little boy dressed in brightly patched overalls shoves a crumpled paper into Wolfwood’s hand, then bounces on his toes until Wolfwood smoothes it out. It’s a flyer, hand painted with a large cage holding a question mark. It beckons Wolfwood come see the caged wonder in the big top all week! He looks at the boy who is grinning at him. He’s missing his two front teeth, shaggy hair, ribs protruding and skinny arms.
“I ain’t given’ you money for a piece of paper, kid,” Wolfwood says. He does reach into an inner pocket of his coat and extracts two pieces of candy. “Here.”

Two and a half years after an alternate universe July is destroyed, Wolfwood escorts Meryl Stryfe and Milly Thompson through the desert to caravan port. They're doing investigative reporting on human trafficking in caravan's after Meryl's success in publishing a piece on Vash the Stampede post July. Wolfwood is trying to live and forgive himself for his betrayal that ultimately killed Vash.

Vash felt like he was choking on his guilt. He slapped his cheeriest smile on his face and didn't meet anyone's eyes. He saw their faces and the buildings and cobble stones, new water canals and gardens and solar panels, all disappearing in white light. Vash's ears were ringing. Wolfwood said something to him but he shook his head and walked faster. He was pretty sure his knee was sprained by his ungraceful landing. He was pretty sure he'd almost killed everyone here.
10 years after the end of Trimax an incident triggers the Angel Arm. Vash deals with the consequences of being a pacifist who is a gun.

Summary
Vash barely focuses his attention on the words Wolfwood throws at him as they navigate through the grocery store. Wolfwood doesn't mind as he continues to chatter after receiving lukewarm responses, thinking Vash is still distracted about what happened earlier. What Vash is really distracted about though, is why he's cautious of Wolfwood. His heart is still racing, and the restlessness from this morning has increased twofold, too on edgy to stand still. This distraction is what caused him to run into the man earlier.
Wolfwood is the reason. Wolfwood is distracting him.
