“Aw, hell.” Steve let out, reading the headline as he walked through the door. He threw the newspaper down at Natasha’s feet on the coffee table. The redhead suppressed a chuckle.
“Language, golden boy!” Natasha teased, puffing a bit of smoke and grabbing for the parchment. Her face fell.
Germany Invades Poland! War begins!
“Aw, hell…”
__________November of 1948: Lower Manhattan, NY
“Is he…”
“Yours?”
“Shit, I didn’t mean to assume. I shouldn’t have asked. I’m sorry, it’s not my busine-”
“His full name is Nathaniel Erik Romanov.”
“Oh.”
Natasha Romanov would do a lot of things differently if she could. For one, she probably would have never enlisted. She never would've left that sweet girl crying in her window all those years ago. But mostly, she should've been there for Wanda. Now, though? Staring down at a pair of eyes she never thought she’d see again, just on the face of a child that was otherwise her own mirror image? This could be her second chance- nearly a decade later.
