But then Red Turtle's strange stomach pains persist for over a week, leading Donatello to conduct an ultrasound to see if it's cancer...
It's not cancer.
The remarkably unsexy fiction is inspired by the real life science of turtles. Like how a turtle's sex is determined! Spoiler alert: It's a lot more wibbly wobbly than in mammals, and doesn't even use XY chromosomes.

“You scared the absolute shit outta me tonight, Leonardo.”
It’s a raw, honest answer. Raph’s tough guy act has never once fooled anyone in their family. Mikey compared the visage once to a cat trying to look bigger than they were, as an act of protection. The bite definitely hurts, but the bark is still worse. Yet because of the tough personality, Raph is rarely one for words. He shows his affections in other ways instead. Picking up Mikey’s favorite snack while out, hitting the record button on the DVR for that Tesla documentary that Don’s been wanting to watch, learning how to brew Leo’s favorite tea blend. Silent things that he can do in the background with little to no fuss. So when that silence turns into actual words, the recipient knows how genuine their brother is being.

Leonardo purposely ignores his body's warnings, and how much it robs him over time.
