Summary
After the defeat of the Elder Brain, Ianfir Ancunín learns that his friend Ulder's son is alive. He is so happy for Wyll, and for Ulder. He does his best to support Ulder as he tries to reconcile with his son. But it's hard not to be jealous knowing that his son, Astarion, is dead and will remain dead forever.

Summary
When Wyll and Astarion arrive at Ravengard Manor on the eve of Returning Day, Father isn’t home. Wyll knows what the butler will say before he says it: the city has made some additional demand on Father’s time, in the form of fractious patriars or trade disputes or unregulated crime, and Father’s presence is required elsewhere. It’s a familiar enough story from his childhood, recited more and more often as Father climbed higher and higher in the ranks. Time and again, Wyll told himself that Father owed his duty to the Gate, and Wyll was one soul in a city of thousands. And even when Wyll took his dinners alone, staring at his father’s empty place setting across the long table, he ate fine food off of fine china with fine silverware. In the midst of such hard-earned luxuries, how could Wyll claim he wanted for anything?
(In which Wyll brings Astarion to his father's house for the holidays, and gets a bigger headache than he bargained for – in more ways than one.)
