Summary
Vance and Finney survived the basement, they kept each other alive, and they clung to each other as they learnt how to exist in the outside world.
Vance never knew how to rely on someone; he didn't when they were protecting each other from the grabber, and he certainly didn't when he remembered that the world would only ever view him as a brute and a killer. So he distances himself from his friends, and he leaves his past behind, but they won't let him go that easily.

This is the third and final part of a longer alternate universe in which Finney was the first victim, and managed to stay alive until Vance was taken, and they escape together.
