Summary
Diluc is a single omega living alone, still doing his best to get over breaking up with his best friend/mate, Kaeya, four years ago. And then the world falls apart in an apocalyptic nightmare. Diluc flipped his hood up and kept his arm raised so he could hold the cloak up to cover Koi from the rain as they walked. After a few minutes of quiet travel Koi asked a question in a soft voice.
"Diluc…what were you going to do if I did know those men?"
The Ragnvindr kept his gaze forward.
She followed up with another question. "Would you do the same as you did to those Fatui when you found me?"
Diluc met her stare from under his arm, Koi walking close to his side like a fledgling would its parent.
"Yes, I would've killed them." He answered honestly.
Koi didn't seem disturbed by his answer, she just nodded and fell quiet again as they walked.

After leaving Mondstadt Diluc travels the nations of Teyvat. While investigating the Fatui's operations in Inazuma during his journey, Diluc comes across a young amnesiac girl being held captive. He embarks to try and get her home while barely holding himself together in the process.

Blood stained his teeth, red from a split lip, as a deep, gut wrenching scream ripped from his throat. It was covered by the sound of thunder roaring through the valley.
He sobbed pathetically, like a child. He wiped the snot and tears from his face, the rain water clearing the mud from his cheeks slowly. Diluc rose with shaking legs and leaned on his knees as he caught his breath. He felt nauseous and dizzy, the adrenaline finally starting to wear off in his system and leaving a devastating fatigue in its place.
Another crack of lighting lit up the surrounding path and the rumble of thunder followed. The young ex-knight steadied himself and continued down the path, taking more care with his steps.

Kaeya could feel the avalanche about to happen. "No-! No, I do! I'm surprised, just really surprised."
Diluc's expression steered towards nervous doubt. "You don't have to force yourself. It's okay if you don't want to...I should've asked before doing all this."
Kaeya looked at the 'all this'. A fine woven crimson rope, clearly one of the decorative sort, not actually meant for horse wrangling. There was a horse crop, black leather and rather soft to the touch when Kaeya ran his finger over the tip. The bridle came with a matching chest harness, Kaeya assumed the triangle straps were supposed to wrap around his chest but he was not sure how that would work since he did not have female breasts.
"I will admit, it's a bit of a jump." Kaeya responded gently, a humored smile as he watched his firefly shift back and forth.

Kaeya is sick and tired of wearing a mask. Day in and day out, he hides behind a meticulously crafted smile and tries not to show how much he aches for his former childhood friend. Their fight on the day of Crepus's death forced them apart and now Diluc won't give him the time of day.
When Favo gives him a long assignment in Fontaine that he has to prepare for, Kaeya decides that enough is enough. He crafts a plan that will either force Diluc to acknowledge his feelings or leave Mondstadt forever. Either way, he's tired of pretending every day of his life and he'll take the risk.
He gets Diluc in his grasp, but things don't go entirely as planned.
