Summary
Bilbo and Thorin have been married (platonically) since the BOFA. The king proposed immediately following the battle, telling Bilbo that it was the only way to both repay his grievous wrongs against the hobbit, and that he need somone he trusts beside him to stay the goldsickness. Bilbo gets very drunk on the 1 year anniversary of taking back the mountain and tries unsuccessfully to sleep with his husband. Misunderstandings ensue.

Summary
Bilbo Baggins was expected to, and indeed was expecting, to live an unassuming life in the Shire, and to die an old man with his family’s and perhaps a few of his own heirlooms and trinkets to his name. No need for romance or adventure in such a life, so he reminded himself time again. But it would seem fate had other ideas for him, a fate by the name of Thorin Oakenshield that came rather suddenly into his life and pulled him by the heartstrings into an adventure he decidedly ‘didn’t’ need.
This is a very slow slow burn, Thorin is an idiot and he needs some sense knocked into him. It may take a while, but a Baggins is nothing if not persistent (and enduring).

“The dragon still did a lot of damage, didn’t it?” he says. “Burned everything.”
Elrond sighs, with resignation that Bilbo detects without looking at him. “Yes. The forests on the Mountain, the fields around Dale, and the city itself have been burned. Many people have lost their lives, and those who survived have nothing.”
Is that not familiar as well, Bilbo muses bitterly. “But Gandalf is there to help them,” he says and wishes he could have said the same about his own people and land. “So it all should be well.”
Elrond does not reply. His silence lasts long enough for Bilbo to understand it.
Or,
In which Bilbo, after losing his home, many neighbours and family in a catastrophic flood, travels East in hopes of helping the survivors of dragon fire... and ends up losing his heart as well. To the King of Erebor, no less.
