Summary
Burdock watched his two favourite people on earth, enveloped in each others’ arms as though all that was important and good and true in the world was right there in front of them, and for the first time felt a pang of relief, that neither of them would ever have to look far to find home ever again.
He raised Asterid’s camera and took a photo of them, frozen with their heads tilted back in giggles as Lenore Dove dipped Haymitch like a damsel.
(Chapter 4.)

Summary
'Maybe that too is why I am so determined that he have the piano, hauling it over the steps of Haymitch's home despite how my body protests, how the exhaustion deep in my bones tells me it isn’t worth doing much of anything at all, and how Peeta reiterates that perhaps we should wait for Haymitch to wake up and have him help us with the load. Because he should have something waiting for him after his duty, to the war and to us, is through.
To have something to pull him through the aftermath. That’s all we're trying to do, isn’t it?'
...
Along with a horrific amount of other things of no use to Katniss, each home in Victor's Village contains a piano. She finds Haymitch playing hers, and a new step of the delicate process of healing starts from there. It starts with song, and ends with a new volume of the ever-increasing Memorial Book.AKA the way Katniss has hunting and Peeta has baking, Haymitch has music - from Lenore Dove, of course. Katniss helps him (read: forces him) to reconnect with this. A bit of healthier healing all around because my D12 Victors WILL get some semblance of peace in the aftermath of the Games if it's the last thing I do, goddammit.

Summary
I am in between two graves, my father’s, and the one Ma and Sid share. Next to theirs is a piece of land that I remember as disturbed, but has with time come to lay flat again; this is where they dug my own grave in advance, before I returned a Victor.
There are little wooden boards driven into the ground to mark who’s who, the letters worn away after years of no one ever polishing them. Katniss sits beside me. “One grave?” she asks.
“They were holding each other when they were found. Didn’t seem right to separate them.” I echo Mr. McCoy’s words.
Katniss says nothing. She reaches forward and runs her thumb over their names carved there. Willamae and Sid Abernathy. I let her. “Do you ever come here?”
“No.”
Haymitch does not visit graves anymore. Not his mother's, not his brother's, not his girl's. Not Maysilee's, nor Louella's, nor Wyatt's. Katniss has no grave to visit - nothing remains of Prim. She asks to see Sid's grave, and Haymitch takes her.
Haymitch learns how to grieve a little more healthily, because I don't care how tough this man is, I *will* crack him open like a goddamn walnut.
Set before the Mockingjay epilogue.

Summary
As the title suggests, a series of unrelated fics that take place between the end of Mockingjay and the Mockingjay Epilogue, but with everything (flashback of the PAIN Suzanne Collins put us through) from Sunrise on the Reaping playing a big role.
These are all Haymitch-centric, at least for now; so far they are all also character studies, and plots focus on Haymitch's dynamic with Katniss and Peeta. There's some mild hurt/comfort, and many, many internal monologues of a depressing variety which I enjoy writing perhaps a little more than I strictly should.
Hope you like it!

Summary
"The page begins with the person's picture. A photo if we can find it. If not, a sketch or painting by Peeta. Then, in my most careful handwriting, come all the details it would be a crime to forget.
Haymitch finally joins us, contributing twenty-three years of tributes he was forced to mentor."
A look at the tributes from District 12 in the years after Haymitch won the 50th Hunger Games, and his own journey from victor to mentor to rebel.
*Note: Canon-compliant with the original trilogy + Ballad, but not Sunrise on the Reaping as the first drafts of this are years old*

Summary
Haymitch felt confident that this was another punishment dictated by Snow. How many names in that bowl were Burdock’s? Was it all of them? He felt an overwhelming urge to find out. It would be easy. All he had to do was knock the bowl on the ground and watch it break into a million pieces, the Capitol’s regime shattering with it as everyone realized that there were no odds to be in favor of. The outcome of the Games was manipulated from the start.
or
When Haymitch first wakes up on the day of the reaping, his only goal is to make it through his first year as a mentor without falling apart. After his former best friend is selected to be that year's male tribute, however, his goal becomes to stop the 51st Hunger Games before they even begin.

*SOTR spoilers*
the world sharpens painfully into clarity when he sees the hollowness of her cheeks, the taught skin over her wrists, and Burdocks hunting jacket pulled tight over her body. Her eyes have that hollow, glassy look starving seam kids get that tells him she's close to death. He knows it's not cold outside, a stark contrast to a couple days ago, the very last of the winter winds blowing softly through the trees. She shouldn't be cold.

Summary
"Because, maybe then it’ll stop,” he says, quietly. Katniss pauses, her fingers lingering on the bowstring.
“What’ll stop?” She asks. Her voice is a rasp. Broken.
“This thing inside me that wants to die.” He doesn’t look at her. She doesn’t look away from him. He stares at Thirteen’s gray walls. Listens to the unending song in his head.
Katniss ties the bowstring. She plucks the taut string. The sound echoes between the walls.

Summary
He already lost Burdock a long time before the mine collapsed. Or Burdock lost him. One of those. Still, it's hard to think of the girl as anything other than his best friend's daughter.
