Seeing him again is worth it, even if it means reopening the past and facing everything she’s been trying to move on from. But maybe fate isn’t as cruel as it seems, because as they fight demons of both the past and the present, they begin to realize that, in the end, all they might really need is each other.

Sherry smiled, something soft in her expression.
“It’s Grace, isn’t it?”
His ears turned red immediately.
Fuck… am I that predictable?
“It is! I knew it! Well, I’m happy for you. I hope you both—”
“Too soon, oracle. She has no idea.”
“I’m pretty sure she does, Leon.”
He sighed, covering his face with his hands—not out of shame, but pure exhaustion, caught between discomfort and the urge to finally admit it.
“Well… good for her. Like I said, I’m old. Old enough to be her father. She deserves someone better than me. Someone more… available.”
Sherry pulled a chair and sat beside him.
“Let me tell you something, Kennedy.”

“Twenty-eight years living in this mess. My dear friend… it’s time. We could both use a fresh start. Don’t you think?”
He stared at his hands in silence.
