Summary
Castiel and Dean meet for the first time on a plane ride out of Nowhere, Alaska. Castiel’s headed home after an impulsive solo vacation and Dean, a hardened Alaskan native, is just trying to get out of the impossibly small town he grew up in that’s got nothing left to offer him. They forge an instant connection over Dean’s flying anxiety and whiskey, a meet-cute that has all the makings of a rom-com with a sickeningly sweet happy ending. That is, until their plane explodes in mid-air, crashing headlong into the Alaskan wilderness and killing everyone on board save for Dean and Castiel. His curiosity led him to the small private library near his university, to indulge a secret passion and, just maybe, catch sight of the infamously strict librarian—he had a weakness for devastatingly clever jerks (and okay, maybe a slight issue with authority). But instead of an intimidating Dragon of a librarian, he only found the librarian’s soft-spoken assistant, Cas.
Quiet, shy guys with pretty eyes and handmade cardigans were not Dean’s type. So that couldn’t possibly explain why he kept coming back to the library, despite never once encountering the notoriously fierce librarian…

Dean looks up from his beer. He hasn’t had that much to drink, but Cas still has a vague look of unreality about him, a splash of living color that doesn’t fit in the bunker’s echoing stillness. Dean didn’t hear him coming. A lot of the time, Cas is so unobtrusive it feels like Dean has the bunker to himself, with Sam away.
