Summary
The fuse has been lit. Lily can almost hear the crackling hiss of it, feel the building burn of it in the air as Sirius takes the reins of the conversation, as drinks are bought and poured down newly dry throats, and eventually as last orders are called and the four of them are standing outside and saying farewell with kisses on cheeks. Sam and Sirius apparate away. Lily and James do not.
They stand, eyes fixed firmly on each other, ready to ignite.
‘Not forever, you said?’ James asks, his voice deep and quiet in a way that’s never been hers to hear before now.
