“You are Scott Hunter’s boy, yes?” Hockey Guy asked, and fuck, he was Russian. Not that Kip had anything against Russians, of course, but the chances were that any given Russian in the NHL was not going to be all that friendly to gay people. The only Russian NHL player Kip was at all familiar with was that Rozanov guy from Boston, and based on the “fighter, womanizer, party boy” stories he’d heard about the guy, he was really hoping that he was not the man standing next to him.
“Yeah. That’s me.” Kip confirmed, standing straighter and flashing a tight smile.
Hockey Guy grinned and offered his hand. “Ilya Rozanov. Nice to meet you.”
God fucking damn it.
Or: During the MLH award ceremony, Kip finds himself having a very interesting conversation with Ilya Rozanov.

They’re in bed, spooning in the afterglow but still connected. Ilya’s face is red, his eyes half-lidded. He looks almost drunk, feral and raw. Shane feels like he’s melted into the bed and never wants to leave it. Like he could lie here, claimed and had, for the rest of his life.
And then there’s a knock at the door. He recognizes the pattern, which is a blessing and a curse both. Tap–ta-tap. The way his father always does.

Summary
The NHL keeps a Central Registry of every team’s Emergency Backup Goaltender, or EBUG, an individual who must be prepared to play for either the home or visiting team should both goalies be taken out of commission. When the Registry was digitized in the mid 90’s a clerical error was made, and David Hollander has remained on file as Montreal’s EBUG. When Boston plays a preseason game in Montreal at the beginning of the 2017/2018 season, both of their goalies are taken out and David Hollander suddenly finds himself in the net in Boston black and yellow.

“So,” the reporter says, tilting her microphone just slightly, “can you explain why you were seen picking up Hayden Pike’s children the other day?”
There it is. Ilya blinks once, slow, thoughtful. Then he shrugs. “Can I explain?” he repeats. “Yes.”
She perks up.
“Will I?” he continues. “No.”Across the country, Hayden Pike is doing the exact same dance under a very different set of lights.
“Hayden,” a reporter says, “people are wondering why Ilya Rozanov was the one to pick up your kids.”
Hayden exhales slowly. “Well,” he says, dry as dust, “there wasn’t a single nanny available. Not one. City-wide shortage.”or, Shane and Ilya had to look after Hayden's kids and Ilya picks them up from school, the public reacts, everybody is confused.
