Summary
Rusty Kink Prompt: The concept of switching "presentations" in A/B/O aus a la clownfish has always been really interesting to me... I'd imagine it'd be pretty uncommon, probably triggered by extreme stress or something, but I can see a lot of interesting scenarios for it, especially in tma.
Martin goes from omega to alpha while Jon's in his coma. He doesn't even realize until he and Jon are at the safehouse.

Martin stands abruptly. His chair spins away from him, wheels squeaking on the cheap lino floor. The tension between him and Jon has reached never-before-seen levels. Tim could probably cut it with a knife. Or a particularly sharp spoon.
Then, Jon lurches forward and half-clambers atop the desk and kisses Martin, and Tim drops his sandwich.

“Jon, this is why I'm here. I'm s’posed to protect you. Your work is too important.”
“Not at the cost of your own life.” The reply is curt, nearly as sharp as the blade that cut into the meat of him hours before. “Not…not when it's my fault. I lost my temper, and I got caught. Should have just let her hit me.”
“It wasn’t your fault. You're just trying to live. It's not your fault you gotta hide like this.” Martin straightens his posture, lifting his arm with a tired grunt to grant Jon further access. “And, I'm sorry, but that actually is the deal. This is what I signed up for when I became a knight. It's what Lord Rayner and Sir Dekker have asked of me. Protecting you is my duty, and if I die in service of that, then I die. It's part of my oath.”
With the wrapping secured, the room goes deathly still. Martin searches for more words of comfort, more ways to explain that this is what he's expected to do. What he's trained for. All he's ever been good for.
