“I see the way you look at me. Like you want nobody else. Nobody else but me.”
Max advanced, and Charles kept retreating. So nervous, always so anxious, feeling guilty. Truth is, Charles was scared.
“I don’t… I don’t know what you’re talking about—“
“Oh, but you do. You do know. Do you think I’m that stupid?” Charles was captivated and mesmerized by every single thing about that man. “Tell me, Charlie. Oscar doesn’t treat you right anymore and you decided to fuck his brother, instead?”

Summary
“Oh god, not you,” Charles groans, crossing his arms on his chest.
The Batman visibly rolls his eyes (blue, of course, because all men that messed with Charles’ life had that in common apparently) at his reaction, but another look at Charles makes him step closer.
“Yes, always a pleasure. Are you ok?”

“No. Listen. Any baptized Catholic man can be pope. Any. You know what that means?”
“It means a billion men are now eligible to run the Vatican like it’s a startup,” Beatrice mutters.
Davide raises an eyebrow. “Where are you going with this?”
Gianluca leans in. Drops his voice like it’s a state secret. “We choose one.”

Summary
For them, Charles was not the new sad boy, but simply Charles. They adopted him into their dynamic without ceremony. Their days filled with soccer matches in the garden, bicycle races down country lanes, and endless afternoons of video games in one or the other's living room. They became an inseparable trinity, a refuge of normality and noise that chased away the ghosts of silence still lurking in his new home. Charles's mother worked long hours to support the family, and his siblings had different schedules, so the twins became his constant companions, his confidants, and, though he didn't verbalize it yet, his anchor.

Summary
Charles had been drifting in and out of the conversation for what felt like hours, his mind hazy and disoriented. The music thudded around him, vibrating through the floor and up into his bones, and all he could catch were fragments of Lando’s animated chatter. Something about the last race, or maybe plans for the weekend—it all blurred together. He blinked, trying to focus on Lando’s voice as it grew sharper, the background noise fading slightly. Lando was in front of him, gesturing wildly, while Oscar stood by his side, nodding along with an easy smile.
