Summary
But that’s when he notices them: the rings.
The shining knickknacks on the table to Sam’s left aren’t just pieces of bargain-bin estate fluff. It’s jewelry. Now that Dean’s moved away, a shaft of light falls right onto the table, reflecting light directly into Sam’s vision. He blinks away the bright spots, and there they are. Sitting innocuously on the edge of the table closest to him.
Later, it will feel like fate. Right now, the feeling is inexplicable, as Sam’s burgeoning sentence dies on his tongue.
Or: After Chuck has been defeated and life is as good as it's ever been, Sam impulsively buys a pair of rings at an estate sale. Dean starts acting strangely.

Summary
He wakes up gasping, like he always does. Always with heart racing and sweat beading on his forehead. Always with the sense of having just awoken from a terrible dream, except that it wasn’t a dream. It was worse. The adrenaline rush makes his head throb dully, makes his vision prick with the threat of tears that he quickly blinks away. Dean bops his head to the beat, reaching into his duffel bag for his toothbrush. Sam watches with a mix of tedium, irritation, and profound, breathtaking relief.
Something about watching Dean die does that to him. Every time.
(It's Tuesday. Sam chases the wrong lead. He's hanging on by a thread.)

Summary
“It’s not working,” Dean sits down on the other end of the couch heavily with a whoosh, jostling Sam. Sam almost drops his book, and protests loudly. Dean turns to look at him. “We have to be gayer.”
Sam barks a laugh, startled, but Dean’s expression doesn’t change. Sam sits up, putting his book down in his lap.
“Gayer?” Sam tries to process Dean’s impassive expression. “Why don’t you tell me what you think that means?”
Or: In order to catch a monster killing gay couples in Iowa, Sam and Dean have to dig deep and pull out the performance of a lifetime. Or...y'know. Not that deep.

POST-FINALE
Steve and Dustin share an apartment at university.
They call it friendship. They call it normal. It isn’t.
Between lectures, late shifts, postponed movie nights and things left unsaid, jealousy and care blur into something harder to ignore. Steve is learning how to want. Dustin is learning how much it hurts to watch.
A slow burn story about love, resentment, domesticity, and the need to be chosen.
Told in two parts: their university years as roommates, and ten years later—when time changes everything except what still aches.Bookmarked by Narrniee
