Summary
(A sequel to "love; it will not betray you.") Lan Wangji hadn't been prepared for the punishment Wen Chao had had in mind--and he certainly hadn't been prepared for how it would play out, from Wei Wuxian's suggested solution, to the claiming bite and resulting bond that revealed deeper emotions than Lan Wangji could ever have anticipated from Wei Wuxian. Summary
When Wei Wuxian realizes how strange it is that Lan Wangji is the only disciple from his sect at the Wen Sect's indoctrination, he puts together a haphazard plan to get punished with him and get some time alone to talk to him--only to get punished again when Wen Chao catches him mid-conversation attempt. At first, Wei Wuxian laughs off getting shoved into the empty dungeon, but he soon notices that some strange scent in the room is making him go into heat, which is a twist that Wei Wuxian doesn't understand. It's only when a rutting Lan Wangji gets shoved into the room with him that Wei Wuxian realizes Wen Chao's idea for punishing him is far more demented than he could have imagined. (canon divergent from The Untamed, episode 12)

Wei Ying narrows his gaze at the stranger. “And what would a spoilt young master like you even know about my Lan-shushu?”
The older man’s smile deepens. “Oh, I know him very well. You may not believe it, but I was even his favorite, once.”
Wei Ying snorts. “Impossible! Shushu’s only ever had one favorite, and that’s me!”
“Perhaps,” the handsome man says, “but how old do you think I am?”
Wei Ying squints again. Looking closer, he’s now noticing the faint hint of crow’s feet around the man’s eyes when he smiles.
“I must be older than you by a good decade or two,” the man hums. “So, it is not too impossible that I could have grown up under your Lan-shushu’s care, too.”
Or, how Lan Qiren’s precious baobei A-Ying comes to fall in love with his exiled nephew, Yiling Patriarch!Lan Wangji.

Summary
The wind was awfully cold for summer— sharp, biting, strong enough to rock the little boat until it creaked like a dying thing. Strange, Wei Wuxian thought distantly, watching the black water lap against the hull. But then again, what was not strange anymore?
It had been the worst monsoon anyone could remember— an unending cycle of storms that had turned their land into a grave of drowned things. The Yangtze had never been a gentle river, but it had never been this cruel either. It had moods: everyone with a brain knew so. Yet, this was no longer temper alone. This was rage, overtaken and unrelenting, without an end in sight.
It did not surprise him when the elders gathered beneath the flooded pavilions and declared that the river god must be appeased— that someone must be offered to still its wrath. This barbaric act of giving a God human brides felt like an inevitability: and, for such thoughts, Wei Wuxian stood before they could call for volunteers. His voice almost sounded calm, though his hands had been trembling behind his back in despair.
Better him than one of them. Always him, rather than them.
Or
Wei Wuxian had never expected to have a dragon for a groom.
