Talon was a bird, wasn't he? Birds had wings, he had wings? So he must be a bird. Birds need Mates. Talon needs a Mate.
The only candidate worth Talon is Red Hood. He's strong, he's smart and he is lethal. He is the only one whose battle prowess comes close to Talons ability. Thus, Talon must court Red Hood.
AKA Talon!Dick essentially asking RH!Jason to be his Mate and Jason being like, hot bird guy? Why not.

Summary
Jason is throw into the past before he can reveal himself as Red Hood. He finds himself a month or so before little him decides to be a meerkat and dig a tunnel....
Terrible jokes aside, he's still riding on waves of the Pit and hunts down Dick to beat the shit out of him... Except Dick is hardly living, wallowing in grief and pain and mourning.
AKA Dick is drinking himself to death and forgoing self-care over the 'guilt' and grief of Jason's death and subsequently missing his funeral (even if it was Bruce's fault) Jason can't beat him up and looked after him instead.

They sit, and Jason immediately grabs half of his pile to sift through. His eyebrows do something funny, and he asks, “Following protocol?”
“Yes,” Tim replies. Then he squints suspiciously. “Please tell me you did too?”
Jason scoffs. “Yes, pretender, I've been following protocol. But seriously, tell me you haven't thought about just warning someone. Believe it or not, the idea of being able to prevent my death and not doing it doesn't inspire warm and fuzzy feelings, dipshit.”
Tim winces and resists the urge to say the very first thing I thought of when I got here was preventing it, because he doubts Jason would be all that flattered.
