“We were hanging out by the river near Granite trail,” Sonic explained. “We were literally just vibing!”
The more Sonic thought about it, the more angry he felt. He hardly ever got Actually Angry but here it was. This just wasn’t fair. It wasn’t nice. It shouldn’t have happened! Knuckles was supposed to be safe here!
“Yes,” Knuckles said, determined to keep misreading the room. “I did not provoke the insects to sting!”
“Dude,” Sonic turned to Knuckles, exasperated. “They’re not bee stings! They’re BBs–tiny baby bullets. You got shot!”

Summary
"On a scale of one to ten, how would you rate your pain? Zero is no pain. Ten is the worst pain you’ve ever felt.”
Knuckles gave the question serious thought before saying: “Zero.”
Her vet tech frowned. She gently touched his swollen hand. Her other was occupied, still pressing the stethoscope to his chest. “Uh-uh." She pulled the stethoscope back. “Dr. Maddie, your boy is worse than a cat. You wanna listen?"
Maddie took the stethoscope from her. “Guess that means I should.”
She heard no irregularities with his heart or breathing. Both were a bit fast, but that was expected. She looked up at the tech, who pointedly (but gently) pressed Knuckles’ bad hand. The subtle shift in Knuckles’ breathing was nearly drowned out by his heart picking up speed. Outwardly, there was no visible change. He WAS worse than a cat.
“You--” She tapped his chest with her free hand. “--are not allowed to use ‘one’ on the pain scale.”
“What?!”
“Yeah. ‘One’ privileges revoked! I know it hurts worse than that.”
