Summary
Stacey Holmes has spent the past ten years on his own; no roots, no cares, and certainly, nobody but himself to consider. He didn't necessarily have anything better to do when Ibex called him out to Vietnam to aid in the investigation of strange shipments that had been popping up all over the valley.
Pure chance reunites him with a childhood friend turned Vulture, Sergeant Xavier Wise, who may not be the same as when Stacey left him.
Meanwhile, the war weighs heavily on Bishop, the years piling on have him questioning if the rewards his country promise are really worth losing what little of himself he has left.
As the Valley offers prehistoric secrets beyond comprehension, Stacey, Xavier, and Bishop struggle to maintain some grip on who they are, and who they want to be before the war or something much older tears them apart.

Summary
Doctor Patricia Hunt is a wildlife biologist working for the National Parks Service; she works tagging and tracking cougars in Yellowstone. Until April 1968 rolls around and she's shipped off to Vietnam as part of a group of 'consultants'. She isn't sure why she's needed, of all people, and she certainly isn't happy about it.
Doctor Hunt ends up stuck with Commander Wallace, picking up the pieces of dead soldiers mauled in a suspiciously not-so-cat-like fashion, waiting for the day she gets to go back home. She knows there's something wrong out in the jungle, she just can't get anyone to listen to her.
Then Bishop comes along investigating those mysterious shipments General Jericho's been after, and Patricia thinks he's just what she's been waiting for.

March 1968, Leslie Baker, known as Lee to his friends, meets Eli Taylor in passing for the first time. He says nothing to the Kentuckian, not even a greeting. It goes nowhere, it means nothing as he takes Kendrick's arm and walks away.
Everything changes a few months later, when Kendrick's platoon disappears without a trace—Lee and Eli are brought into close quarters that neither of them entirely know how to navigate.

At least, that's what it felt like as he leaned back in to taste Stacey's mouth again, for the umpteenth time in that hour. The crickets were chirping and the sun had lazily set an hour ago over the tree line but he didn't need light to find Stacey's face. Didn't need to see to know it like the back of his hand.
He'd gotten a hold of some kind of chocolate bar, maybe. Something sweet. It stuck to his lips and his teeth—or maybe it was just the way Stacey tasted to him when he licked at the inside of his mouth.
Or, They make camp in the middle of the jungle, Xavier gets a craving for something sweet.
