“Do not act as if you do not know what I am referring to,” the princess told him, but before he could tell her that he did not, in fact, know to what she was referring, she kept going. “I heard you with your brothers, saying pigs would fly before we married. Pigs!” She snorted and shook her head. “It is certainly a fasci- fasci- oh, what is that word again? Interesting! That is it! It is an interesting idea, though I am sad to know that you find airborne swine more realistic than marrying me.”
His eyes widened. Colin knew precisely what she was talking about, and she did not realise just how wrongly she had understood it. “Penelope-”
“It is a shame, really, because I have loved you for so long,” Penelope spoke completely innocently, as if she were not saying the words Colin had always assumed he would only hear in his dreams. “I think I would have made quite a good wife for you.”

Penelope loves her son, she loves her son more than anything on this earth, she only wishes that the reminders of him on her body did not have to be so severe. She knows that Colin’s interest in her would never diminish the way her mother suggested, there is no universe in which she can imagine that happening, but that does not take away from the fact that her body has changed and, regardless of her husband’s opinion, Penelope is not sure how she feels about that.
Penelope is so caught up in her own thoughts, she does not notice Colin entering the room, he walks past her, giving her the tiniest of kisses on her cheek. “Looking as beautiful as ever, my darling.”
She wishes that she could believe that, but truthfully, beauty is the last thing that she feels in this moment. So all she manages is to scoff and say, “do not mock me, please.”
The silence that consumes the room is deafening.
Colin whips around to face her almost immediately as she freezes. “I beg your pardon?”
Penelope uses an old phrase, and Colin isn't having it.

“What?” Colin was on his feet instantly, holding his phone to his face to try and focus on Eloise. She’d gone red and was blinking at the camera in shock.
“I had no idea,” she says quietly, “She didn't tell you, Col?”
“I haven’t heard from her much this trip to be honest. I don’t understand, Eloise. How could you of all people not know?” Colin asks.
“Uh, we kind of had a fight. I don’t think she's spoken to me in 3 months.”
“Bloody hell! Colin?” Anthony bites out, “What’s your excuse?”

“You are not making any sense, Penelope!” her husband yelled. “I do not understand you! I am trying to help you and I am still somehow failing you- What do you want from me?!”
“I want you to help because I am me! Not because I am your wife!”
Silence engulfed the room as the words settled in the air between them. All Colin did was look at her, eyes wide, as if she were a painting he was trying to process the meaning of. Penelope wished to speak, but every word she thought to say rose to her throat and lodged itself there, refusing to move even an inch. Finally, in a voice so small she nearly missed it, Colin asked, “what do you mean?”
What if Colin and Penelope reconciled a little earlier in episode 8?
