Alba Davinos, however, has her own idea of how this story goes.

Summary
In darkness Julien waited, letting himself release some of the tension he had been holding for so long. All would be well. His lady was getting to work. Presently Aranessa snapped her fingers and a candle lit itself in her hand; the room became a brooding study in chiarioscuro. She thrust the candle at Julien, a bit too close for his liking. He took it from her and held his hand before the flame so it would shed its light on him without distracting her with its glare.
Aranessa leaned forward, looking not at Julien but past him, at the wall where his shadow was thrown by the flame. A cold runnel of doubt trickled down Julien’s spine, because her eyes were lit not by a desire for dominion over magic, but by a different sort of hunger.
“Thjazi,” she breathed, “is that you?”
Even now, with the Golden Orchard razed, the veil was thin in this place. From the pool of shadow falling over Aranessa, a hand emerged, and rose up to cup her chin and pass its thumb across her lower lip.
Aranessa’s eyes welled and her lips formed a shaky smile.
Oh, fuck.

Summary
[Spoilers for C4E31.]
“You embarrassed me,” Occtis hisses. “You embarrassed me today.”
The boy is standing over the bed, gaze fixed on the mattress, seeing nothing as his clever mind fixates on some unknown fact of Julien’s prior conduct.
Julien tries to play the day’s hectic events back through his mind, but their flight from Dol-Makjar was a fearful one plagued by paranoia, so much so that he finds his recall hampered. He’s sure he was an asshole to everyone all day, but he doesn’t remember aiming it at Occtis, at least not on purpose.
Waiting for Occtis to volunteer information tends to involve more patience than Julien has handy, so he’d might as well ask. “When did I embarrass you?”
Occtis still doesn’t look at him. “You picked me up like a sack of grain in front of all of our colleagues.”
Of all the things to have a fight about right now, Julien feels like this isn’t the one he’d personally pick, and a stupid part of him wants to say so. An even stupider part of him wants to point out that that was last night, not today.
He manages to hold his tongue on these two points, but he can’t keep his ire from his tone. “What did you expect me to do? Leave you behind?”

“Copper for your thoughts?” Julien asks him.
The voice he uses makes Azune do a double-take, low and personable. He finds himself short on words for a second, but forces himself to rally. “I’m trying not to think about anything.”
Julien laughs. “I know that feeling.”
Azune is fully capable of not being weird about this turn in the conversation, and he needs to start putting it that skill to work. “It’s been a fucked up few weeks.”
Julien’s eyes are on his drink. “Yes. It has.” He swirls his glass, watching the rich, dark liquid undulate in the candlelight. “You’re a lot taller now.”
Azune blinks. “I mean. Yeah. I guess I am.”
“Well, I’m not.”
Azune had noticed. “I hadn’t noticed.”
“Really? I assumed that was what you were staring at all night.”
Azune’s nerves start to clamor. “I didn’t mean any offense.”
For the first time, Julien turns to look at him. “I didn’t take any offense.” The playful smirk on his lips is spellbinding. “Much like your height, I just thought it deserved comment.”

There is a part of her that really wants to accept. He’s a good two feet taller than her and broad as a battleaxe and handsome in that way that’s not too handsome, that says he does something with his life that’s not just for looks.
“You just got poisoned,” Murray protests. “You nearly died.”
King Gus laughs at that. His laugh is rich and spontaneous and from the belly. “This is how I know you haven’t been on a battlefield, Ms. Mag’nesson.”
Murray wrinkles her nose. “The hell’s that supposed to mean?”
“I mean,” King Gus says, “that if you’d been on the battlefield, you’d know– that right after you nearly die is the best time to fuck like rabbits. Helps you remember you’re alive, you know.”

Summary
The obnoxious Tachonis boy kept repeating everything Julien said, and Julien could not fathom why. Regardless, whatever game Occtis was playing was the last irritation he needed on top of a deeply unpleasant day, and the explanation offered was utterly ludicrous. Julien was fluent in both languages used by his house and had no reason to confuse them.
(When Julien's thoughts are clouded by injury/illness, one language comes more readily to his tongue than the other. Unfortunately, not the one he has in common with his companions.)
