Summary
"I would have expected to see you in the cockpit," Payback started, as Jake tried to keep his attention on the radio chatter. Harvard, Yale, and Fritz were up there.
He was not going to take the bait. He was not going to give them that satisfaction.
"Well, maybe the brass finally share our conclusions. That you cannot be trusted up there," Phoenix went on, just as coldly as Payback.
"You finally screwed up enough to be grounded?" Fanboy asked. "Or is it because of Bee's death?"
At the mention of his wingman's callsign, his grip tightened around the pen and clipboard he had in hand. He had heard it all before, the gossip, the accusations, but never from people he had once considered his family.
"I received orders," he answered, stoically, eyes still glued on the radio. "I'm here to teach, to lead you to success. That's it."
"Bagman, the only place you'll lead anyone is an early grave," Rooster stepped in, anger clear as day in his voice.
🛩️ Permanently grounded and wingless, Hangman must team up with Maverick to prepare the Dagger Squad for the suicide mission. Will they be able to set aside their feelings or crash and burn before they even fly that mission?

Jack puts the phone to his ear.
“Hey,” Nick says. His voice sounds wet. That’s enough to make Jack stop his pacing entirely.
“Nick?”
“Yeah,” Nick says, and coughs. “I caught some strays, couple days ago. Think you can take care of them for me?”

"...Junior?"
Is the lad giving him the cold shoulder? He knows Jamie didn't want to see him drunk, but this seems like a bit of a strop. Last night wasn't too bad or anything; the images come in bits and pieces. He came to Jamie's door, they shouted a bit back and forth, he threw a bottle, they argued some more, then James passed out on the couch.
Or wait. Was there more yelling after the bottle? Door, yelling, bottle, yelling, quiet, couch, right? Or was it door, yelling, bottle, quiet?
"Junior, wake up."
When did the quiet start?
