Summary
Lan Wangji has done everything he can to strengthen his cultivation on his own. He realizes he can’t go further without a familiar so at the encouragement of his family and Clan, he attends a conference where he might find a creature that will compliment his training and become a true partner to him. Who he finds is someone he never thought he’d pick.
Wei Wuxian is in a cage, though he’s unwilling to bend or break. A proud Huli Jing, he has no master though his wild and untamed nature create a challenge for the greatest of cultivators, but he is not one who will be easily controlled. It isn’t until he sees golden eyes through the bars that hold him prisoner and hears a voice that soothes something in his soul that he thinks he might allow himself to succumb.
Will the two of them be able to work together and find balance, or will their differences make it difficult to succeed in them both getting what they want?

Summary

He could feel the frown on his face deepen and he clasped his hands in front of him again leaning on the table as he considered what he should do. He took a deep inhale trying hard to think of something, anything to ease his conscience that he wasn’t forcing this man into marriage when he wasn’t ready, but also that didn’t hurt the Jiang sect.
“Doesn’t the Lan clan have strict courting requirements?” He says after a while looking over the Lan elders and sect leader.

Wei Wuxian weren’t talking so Lan Wangji got up with a simple
‘I will make tea. I will be back’ leaving his lips but just as soon, finally, Wei Ying turned to him like he was back into this realm.'I presented.' Wei Wuxian whispered then, as if afraid to speak those words into the thick silence. Into existence.
At that Lan Wangji remembers stilling, hundreds of questions immediately threatening to leave him at once but he smelled the air, unashamedly so.
‘You presented…as' Lan Wangji whispered himself in return, almost as low. He wanted to ask.
